Trustees hear report on growth, focus on theological education
In the 2004 reporting period, IMB personnel …
● engaged 137 new people groups with a total population of more than 120 million individuals;
● engaged 15 unengaged, unreached urban centers for the first time;
● planted the first Baptist churches among 14 people groups where no evangelical churches existed previously.
Besides receiving the annual report showing substantial growth in 2004, IMB trustees meeting Jan. 9-11 …
● heard IMB leaders reaffirm their commitment to theological education overseas;
● appointed 12 new missionaries;
● approved reallocation of $8.25 million to balance various accounts and an allocation of $1.15 million for facility improvements;
● sought the removal of trustee Wade Burleson; and
● heard a report concerning a story released to Baptist Press following their previous meeting. Read more.

Speaking of missions
Missions by the Book: Clothe yourselves with compassion
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” – Colossians 3:12 (NIV).
Quotable: “When I prayed, it changed a lot in my life”
“I had a good feeling when you prayed for me and you shared with me my problems. When I prayed as they told me, it was wonderful. When I prayed, it changed a lot in my life. I cannot forget that.” – Jenat*, tsunami survivor who first credited Buddha for her survival, but has since become a vibrant follower of Jesus Christ, who understands that He alone has the power to save
Illustration: He wanted to please his helpers; now he wants to please God
Sunimal*, a survivor of the December 2004 tsunami, said he first showed interest in Jesus to please Southern Baptist workers who had helped fix his damaged house. “ They were helping me, so I wanted to help them,” he said. Then a volunteer named Kimberly gave Sunimal a Bible and he began attending training sessions led by Southern Baptist workers. He soon found himself wanting to please God above anyone else. Now Sunimal’s Buddhist father is reading the Bible.
