Lunch for Lottie

Pat Yost, chairman for the 2004 season of prayer for international missions at First Baptist Church, Shellman, Ga., says their “Lunch for Lottie” was a potluck with a new wrinkle: “Everyone brought lunch and paid for it, too. The tables were decorated with missionaries' names on portions of maps and brochures about Lottie Moon's life. A basket was placed by the door for the offering. It was all very low-key with a brief statement about the church's goal of $1,500. Retired IMB missionaries Jim and Mary Lochridge spoke briefly at the end of the morning worship service. They also attended the luncheon and brought pictures and other items from their 27 years of service in the Philippines. Everyone was encouraged to take a package of Lottie Moon cookies as they left. Some of the cookies were made according to Lottie's own recipe. The luncheon netted $1,325. The next Sunday, our total jumped to $1,606. Before this special emphasis, it always took our small church two or three months to reach our Lottie Moon offering goal.”

We'd like to share your success stories with other churches. E-mail them to us.
