Giving
Lottie Moon offering nearly matches 2003 record
 |
| Gifts to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering® enable missionaries like Travis Jones, missionary to university students in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania , to help spread the gospel to those who have never heard. |
When the books closed on the 2004 Lottie Moon offering May 31, Southern Baptists had given $133,886,221.58. The amount fell just short of the previous year's $136 million total and short of the $150 million goal. Read more.
As missionary numbers rise, will church support follow?
The death of the American missionary movement has been greatly exaggerated. Mark Twain might have said that if he had observed the 116 Southern Baptist missionaries appointed May 20. But willing missionaries alone can't keep the movement alive. Read more.

Speaking of missions
Quotable: Making a global impact
"When over 50 percent of our budget comes from this annual free-will offering, we cannot adequately state the potential global impact it will have on reaching a lost world for Jesus Christ. Gordon Fort, International Mission Board vice president for overseas operations, speaking about the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering

Christianity spread throughout South Korea in remarkable ways during the 20th century. But recently in South Korea, Buddhism has experienced a revival that should raise new concern among Christians. When Protestant missionaries arrived 125 years ago, Buddhism, one of the oldest and most well-established religions in Korea, had fallen on hard times. Temples were in disrepair and Buddhist priests were accused of sex scandals and not permitted into the city of Seoul. Today, however, with money pouring in from the fees to climb most mountains in Korea and donations from wealthier Koreans, the temples have been repaired, many new temples and large Buddha statues are being constructed, and there is a full-time Buddhist TV network. Pray that Korean Christians will be salt and light to their neighbors and that God will fill them with an overwhelming awareness of the lost people around them.
Discover the challenges Christians face in other countries and pray with them.
Missions by the Book: A Missionary prayer request
Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given to me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly as I should (Eph. 6:19-20, NIV). Paul, one of the first missionaries, writing to supporters in the church in Ephesus (located in modern-day Turkey )
