As rockets fall, prayers for ‘true peace’ rise

Amid the shouts of fear and fury as rockets rain down on Israel and Lebanon, a deeper cry is rising to God from Christian believers in the Middle East: “Lord, bring peace!”

Your will: A plan for your survivors

If you are between 42 and 60 years of age, the National Association of Baby Boomers calls you one of its own. By some estimates, $41 to $136 trillion will be passed down to you from the estates your parents distribute. Do you know how to plan for our survivors?

Speaking of missions

Missions by the Book: Show your faith by your works

"Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself. But someone may well say, 'You have faith, and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.'" -- James 2:17, 18 (NASB)

Quotable: Teens adopt beliefs -- and habits -- of parents

"Today's young people want to believe truth. But they tend to act on what they personally experience -- and what they see acted out in the lives of their parents and other leaders -- not what they 'hear about' or read." -- Erich Bridges in "Faith and Action: Teens crave both"

Illustration: Church of 40 starts four more churches

With only 40 members and no pastor or building to call its own, one church in Kazakhstan started four other churches -- and it's not done yet. A Southern Baptist worker in the country credits the success of this church in the last couple years with solid discipleship built on relationships. In Kazakhstan, church growth has expanded from 1,000 churches in the mid-90s to more than 13,000 in recent years. "It's happening in house churches where believers are becoming intimately connected (with God's Word), says Joe Bailey*, a Southern Baptist missionary who has lived in Kazakhstan for several years." It's not seen as a (study) course but part of active participation in the community of believers."
