Speaking of missions

Missions by the Book: He sends His followers ahead of Him

"After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go" - Luke 10:1, NIV.

Quotable: Ripped out of his comfort zone

"That first mission trip can be a very scary thing. I had never been out of the country before, and for the first time in my life, I was ripped out of my comfort zone. And it was great!” -- Alvin Jeffery, student at Union University in Jackson, Tenn., one of 90 students featured in the new book, "My Life, His Mission"

Illustration: Legacy of faith

A Southern Baptist worker in China says she and a friend had already heard several testimonies to God's glory at a local registered church when one young man stood. He said his parents had abandoned him when he was a teenager and his grandmother took him in. At her home he met Sister Li*, who shared the Gospel with him and led him to faith in Christ. That afternoon, Sister Li had gone home to be with our Lord, her battle with cancer finally ended. "I found myself thinking of my friend sitting next to me," the worker said, "so far away from her family, facing the death of her grandmother whose battle with cancer had also ended the day before." As she thought of her friend and the young man, each faithfully serving God, but now dealing with sadness and joy, she imagined  Sister Li and her friend's grandmother seeing the legacy of their faith living on in their spiritual descendents in that dark city.
