Baptist workers head to quake zone, seek ways to help survivors

As the confirmed death toll topped 20,000 in remote towns and villages flattened by the worst earthquake in Pakistan’s history, Southern Baptist workers in South Asia moved quickly to find ways to help survivors. Two workers already have entered one of the most heavily damaged areas with a truckload of supplies, and 150 tents have been delivered to families left homeless by the quake.

That all peoples may know Him

A woman in India reads Scripture during a church service. First Baptist Church, Powell, Tenn., hopes to help more people in this city trust in God's Word.

Church committed to reach a city of nearly 2 million
First Baptist Church, Powell, Tenn., digs in for the long haul to bring a church-planting movement to a city of nearly 2 million people in India. When they began work there in spring 2004, they were one of the first churches to attempt such work in India.

Pray for them during the Week of Prayer.

Quotable: Your dollars reach the people of India

Jerry Rankin

“For many it’s too late. And yet whether or not others have an opportunity to hear the gospel of Christ … is dependent on all of us and whether we’re willing to give that they, too, might hear the gospel. When you give to the Cooperative Program and the Lottie Moon offering, your dollars reach the Ganges River. They reach the people of India.” – Jerry Rankin, president, International Mission Board

Speaking of missions

Missions by the Book: All nations will come

“’I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the Lord Almighty” – Haggai 2:7, NIV.

Illustration: Do you weep for the lost?
“I went to the home of a believer this afternoon because I saw her crying at her cousin’s wedding yesterday and thought I knew why. I guessed wrong. While she does wish that someone wonderful will come along and sweep her off her feet, that wasn’t the reason for her tears. One hundred and fifty of her relatives were all crowded in the room during the wedding feast celebrating, and she was broken over their lostness. They don’t know Jesus.” – worker in East Asia
