That all peoples may know Him

During his 30 years as a missionary in Bangladesh, RT Buckley weathered many deadly cyclones. So when Katrina hit their retirement home in Picayune, Miss., he and Fran did what they always have – they set out to help others.
Mark Caldwell and a local Christian take the half-hour boat ride from the coastal city of Ranong to several island villages damaged by the tsunami. Caldwell aims to not only bring physical help to tsunami survivors, but also to help local believers spark a church-planting movement in the region.

When the call came for help, Mark Caldwell couldn’t say ‘No’
When the call came for Mark Caldwell to leave his work among the Isaan people of northern Thailand and help tsunami survivors in southern Thailand, Caldwell and his wife, Helen, hesitated only briefly before they said yes. Read more.

Find this and other stories about missionaries you support through the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering® in the fall issue of The Commission magazine. Order copies to distribute in your church.

Watch “Filling an Empty Glass,” a video about Caldwell’s missionary call, available on the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering DVD in this year’s pastor’s guide and leader’s guide. Low | Medium | High

Pakistanis face fears, harsh winter ahead
Fear grips the mountain peoples of Pakistan. They fear frequent aftershocks that continue to topple buildings. They fear facing winter without adequate shelter and provisions. They fear aid will never reach them or that there will not be enough for everyone. They fear the chaos of relief camps. Southern Baptists seek to alleviate earthquake survivors’ fear by helping them prepare for the harsh winter ahead. Read more.

Speaking of missions

Missions by the Book: God accepts people from all nations

“‘… I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right’”. (Acts 10:34-35, NIV) – Early church leader Peter

Quotable: What does it take to extend the gospel?

“Does extending the gospel to the edge of lostness require special gifts, compelling eloquence or extraordinary courage? Sometimes. More often, it takes simple obedience and faith on the part of God’s ordinary servants.” – Erich Bridges, writing about the unsung heroes of church-planting movements
