| Laddu (left) and his family, like thousands of other Sri Lankans who lost everything in the Dec. 26 tsunami, wait in temporary wooden structures until they can rebuild. Southern Baptists are helping rebuild homes with aid funds donated by churches during the last nine months. |
Special for newsletter subscribers! Thank you from Angola

Small church with big heart budgets for missions year-round
Pastor Paul Moore describes his church as a traditional congregation, located in a “blue-collar” city with a population of about 2,500 people. This small church gave $70,957 to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering last year – an average of $611.70 per member. Find out how they did it.

Virtual missions
As missionary Lori Funderburk sought to reach the Banta Themne people of Sierra Leone, she faced a major obstacle. War had forced her family out of the country. Undaunted, Lori recruited five “ordinary” American housewives to be members of a “virtual missions” team.
Now that ministry is coming to a close. Find out why.
Power on our knees
More powerful than a tsunami? Yes, we’re talking about prayer. “The power of prayer comes not from the people praying but from our God to whom we pray.”
See how this power has made a difference in Libya, in India, in Mongolia when Southern Baptists have prayed.

Speaking of missions
Missions by the Book: All peoples will be blessed
“The Lord had said to Abram, ... ‘All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.’”
—Genesis 12:1, 3, NIV
Illustration: Former witch doctor now shares God’s Word
A well-known witch doctor in Northern Africa had people for miles around coming to her for her services – to be healed from sickness or to be set free from a curse placed upon them. She made a lot of money from her sorcery. One evening she came across a radio program where a storyteller was telling the story about God creating the world. She was interested in hearing more, so she listened to the storyteller each week. When she listened to the story of Noah and the ark, she became acutely aware that she was a sinner just like the people in Noah’s time. She confessed her sin to God, repented and gave her life to God. Now when people come for her services, instead of practicing witchcraft, she tells them the Bible stories and shows them how to find the program on the radio. Many people continue to come to her, and she shares God’s Word with each one of them.
