Praying

Loving the peoples
of the Arabian Peninsula

It’s time to put the finishing touches on plans for the Day of Prayer and Fasting for World Evangelization May 30. Even if your church isn’t participating, you can use prayer requests and other helps available on the Web to pray for these Muslim peoples.

Sheep without a shepherd:
Youth of the world need Jesus

• More than a fourth of the world’s 6.3 billion people were between the ages of 10 and 24 when the 21st century began.

• 86 percent of those young people live in less-developed countries.

• They are the “healthiest, most educated and most urbanized” of any generation in history, but hundreds of millions remain in poverty.

• About half of all people infected with the HIV/AIDS virus are under age 25.

• Up to two-thirds of all rape victims are age 15 or younger.

Physical and economic progress is crucial for the world’s young people. But it won’t count for much if they remain spiritually adrift. Read how your young people can pray for other young people around the world May 29.

Leaders in Fushun put an emphasis on education because they know students will play an important role in the city’s future.

theCOMMISSION online

Last Frontier:
The people of Fushun, China

One of China’s 31 largest cities and the nation’s coal capital, Fushun plays a significant role in China’s efforts to modernize its major cities. You are called to pray that the city’s people will have the opportunity to feel God’s love.

Find profiles of other unreached cities and people groups listed to the right on the same page and in theCOMMISSION online archives.

Updates three times a week

Look each Monday, Wednesday and Friday for a brief update on a city or people group where the gospel is needed — or where good things are happening because God is already moving there. Check out Window on the world. Great for sermon illustrations, church bulletins and newsletters. Here’s a sample:

40 million in darkness

The 40 million Awadhi people live mainly in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh in northern India. Eighty percent of the Awadhi live in villages, and their main occupation is agriculture. They are 90 percent Hindu, 9 percent Muslim and less than 1 percent Christian. Most of the believers live in the cities, and the majority of villages have not been reached with the gospel.

Calling all playwrights

Drama has proved a popular tool for promoting international missions and the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. If your church has used a play on these topics that you would be willing to share with other churches — or if you know someone who is skilled at writing dramas for worship services, e-mail us information on how to contact the playwright.
