Moon offering surges past $136 million
Southern
Baptist churches — and their 5,376 missionaries around the
world — are celebrating a monumental $136.2 million response
to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering ® for International
Missions. That reflects an increase of almost $21.2 million
(18.4 percent) over 2002 — the largest dollar increase in
the offering's 115-year history.

- tightened oversight on the selection
of non-Southern Baptists to serve in volunteer projects

- elected their officers for 2004-05,

- heard a report that the number of
long-term missionary personnel rose above 4,000 for the
first time in 2003, in spite of restrictions placed on appointments
for financial reasons.
