Quotable:
Join God in spite of the cost
Amazingly,
these tragic deaths have inspired others to follow in their
steps, and their example calls all of us to a greater sacrifice
and obedience. Jerry Rankin, International Mission
Board president, reporting to Southern Baptist Convention
messengers about the risk some are willing to take because
of their conviction that Jesus alone is the answer to humanitys
spiritual need

Quotable:
Its the least I could do
Make
no mistake, David and I went to Iraq out of Gods call on
our lives to see His name glorified among the nations. That
includes the hard and violent places. My Jesus bears scars
on His body from the violence He endured. How could we sit
back and say I cant go because its too hard, especially
when the world is saying, You just cant do that? Trust
me, for my Jesus, its the least I could do. Carrie
McDonnall, only surviving member of the team of five Southern
Baptist workers attacked in Iraq in March, as she spoke to
messengers at the Southern Baptist Convention

Abdullahs
story
Life
looked bleak for Abdullah* on the day a kind American gave
him a ride in his rickshaw. He had been thrown out of school
and rejected by his family for daring to ask probing spiritual
questions. The American not only was kind, but also was willing
to answer his spiritual questions. Tom Thurman, now retired
from 33 years of missionary service in South Asia, led the
young man to Christ. Later beaten and left for dead by his
own neighbors because of his commitment to Christ, Abdullah
persisted in sharing his testimony about new life in Christ.
In time, every one of the 1,600 people in that village came
to faith in Jesus. And since then, because of Abdullahs witness,
more than 400,000 people have been baptized and 9,700 churches
and 500 Bible study groups have started. The movement continues
to grow in spite of hostility. Nine Christian evangelists
have been murdered for their witness, including a boyhood
friend who was the first person he won to Christ, Abdullah
says. Yet some of those involved in the killing have become
Christians themselves.

Beyond

Sharing
the God of love with Muslims
The
beheadings that didnt happen
As
terrorism, executions and revenge attacks continue to claim
headlines in the Middle East, two acts of mercy went relatively
unnoticed. In two nearly identical incidents, the fathers
of murder victims spared the lives of the convicted murderers.
What an illustration of the mercy of God, who forgave those
who killed His only Son. How desperately such mercy is needed
and desired in the Muslim world at this historical moment.
