'Chief Doctor Mama'
When King S.O. Abimola II bestowed an African chiefs
title on a 56-year-old woman from Texas, it was a
fitting tribute to a woman who had poured out 32 years of
her life for Christ among the people of Iwo, Nigeria. But
Alma Rohm was far from finished. She served 54 years before
becoming one of 37 retiring missionaries honored at a recent
service. Read

Signs
of life found in pagan village
A group of Southern Baptist missions workers in Uganda
often take long walks. They take these long walks to share
the gospel. There is one village they pass by regularly.
Some of the people in this village are often drunk and disrespectful.
The children appear sickly, and the villagers joke with the
missions group about the local river spirit. One day, a young
woman from the village asked where they were going and what
they were doing. The missions group stopped, took out their
cassette player and shared the praise songs they had recorded.
They also played a recording of the story of Adam and Eve.
When the tape stopped, the large group of villagers asked
them to play another. Before the group left, the villagers
asked them to return. The group hopes that a ministry will
begin in or near this village.
