planter Subba Rao baptizes a new Christian in one of
the areas where he's planted a church. |
Subba Rao, partner in the gospel
In a swift-running brown river, Subba
Rao baptizes 13 new believers, one after the other, as
others watch from the steep riverbank. But the Indian church
planter is especially pleased that in the previous six
months he has started nine house churches, using a new “training
for trainers” program
introduced by Southern Baptist workers through the Baptist
organization in India’s Karnataka state. Read

Like Paul, Subba Rao once hated
Christians
Subba Rao’s father died when he was young. Wicked
people managed to take away his family’s house and
land, leaving them with nothing. A Hindu priest told him
the Christians did things like that. The Indian boy hated
Christians for years after that. But one day he heard Christians
in a church singing hymns. “Jesus came to save sinners,” they
sang. This got Rao’s attention, because he recognized
his own sin. The Hindu gods destroy the wicked, he believed. “There
is no salvation for me, according to that doctrine,” he
says. Rao went into the church. “Is it true that Jesus
came to save a sinner like me?” he asked them. Yes,
they replied. Believers gave him a Bible and showed him God’s
promises. “As I was reading in the Scripture about
the life of Jesus, that was a great joy that entered into
my heart,” he said. Rao became what he had once hated — a
follower of Christ. Now he wants to see everyone around him
follow the same Savior.
