People Group Focus:the Salar of ChinaSalar

Tucked away in a remote, mountainous region of Northwest China, the Salar have the reputation for being the most zealous Muslims in China.  There are no known believers among them, no Christian radio broadcasts in their language, and neithe the Bible nor the Jesus film has been translated into their natin their native language of Salar.

Although Islamic beliefs are weakening among the Salar young people, they have nothing to replace them with. The only knowledge they have about Christianity consists of the false notions that have been propagated by their Muslim religions leaders. Who will tell this unreached people about the freedom and love available to them in Jesus? Read more about the Salar and their needs.

Raising Money for Your Student Mission Project

Fundraising for a short-term mission project can be intimidating, but if this mission project is God's desire for you, He will provide.

Use these tips for fundraising:

1. Give sacrificially out of your own funds. Don't ask others to do for you what you aren't willing to do yourself.

2. Ask your friends if they would give up one soda per day and a fast food meal per week and save the money for your mission project.  By the end of a year, each friend will have saved about $450.

3. Write letters to family and friends and ask church members you know to give to you mission project fund.

Many adults want to be involved in missions, but can't be because of health, work, or family duties. By helping you, they are involved in a tangible way.

If you recoil at asking people for money for your mission project, check your pride. God has blessings in store for those who give to His Kingdom mission work. Your pride may be keeping someone from receiving God's blessing because you wouldn't tell them of your need.

Night of Power

"When will the night of power come?" a follower of Jesus asked his Omani co-worker. The Omani replied, "No one knows beforehand which night of Ramadan it will be. We strive to be prepared for that night, when God will visit his followers with dreams, visions, and special spiritual powers and joy."

According to tradition, Allah reaches down for a brief moment on the Night of Power and if a person is praying at that particular split-second, his prayer is answered - guaranteed.  It's a night when many stay up all night, asking God to reveal himself to them and expecting God to speak to them in dreams.

Let's ask that God will reveal truth of Jesus Christ to Muslims to those who are truly seeking Him on the Night of Power- to those whose hearts He has already begun preparing for Himself.

The Night of Power is traditionally during the last 10 days of Ramadan, the Muslims holy month of prayer and fasting. This year, the last 10 days falls on Nov. 20 - 30.

An Afghan Muslims who was stuck in a crowded refugee camp, was observing the Ramadan fast and praying that God would reveal Himself. The man heard the good news of God's love and salvation in Jesus Christ from a follower of Jesus who was ministering to the refugees. On the night before the Night of Power, this man had a dream of Jesus. The next day he decided to repent of his sin and follow Jesus.

Persecuted Church: China

God's presence in persecution

The moment was unlike any other as a small group of Christian workers waited to hear the house-church leader answer the question. They knew that this man who had been cruelly beaten and imprisoned many years for his faith possessed keen insights. Despite everything, he had continued to faithfully proclaim Christ. And so they sat enthralled as they waited to hear his answer to the question, "How shall we ask people to pray for the church in China?"

Firmly and with determination, he replied, "Don't ask God to put an end to the persecution. Pray instead that those who are suffering will sense God's presence with them, and that He will be glorified through their lives and witness."

Missionary Heroes Bio Byte: Lottie Moon

The Chinese called her "Devil Woman," but Lottie LottieMoonMoon was a heroine for today.  Lottie Moon is the namesake of the Southern Baptist international missions offering during the Christmas season because she was a woman passionate about a lost world, a woman who didn't hesitate to speak her mind.

As a college student, Lottie chose to follow Christ, having rebelled against Christianity in her early years. When she set sail for China, Lottie was 32 years old. She had turned down a marriage proposal and left her job, home and family to follow God's lead. Lottie labored in China for 39 years.  Many Chinese who once feared this foreigner eventually accepted her, and some accepted her Savior.

In 1912, during a time of war and famine in China, Lottie silently starved, knowing that her beloved Chinese didn't have enough food. Her fellow Christians saw the ultimate sign of love: giving her life for others. On Christmas Eve, Lottie died on a ship bound for the United States. Read more about Lottie Moon and her ministry to the Chinese.
