Welcome to the first edition of thE-TASK for youth, college and seminary students. This new style of thE-TASK gives you more of the missions "stuff" you want, so we're calling this the "first edition."

God is doing some amazing things through you as you answer His call to "Go" to a lost world. In 2001, more than 8000 students served through the International Mission Board! You rock! Your excitement about the nations and obedience to God is awesome.

We want "thE-TASK" to give you the information you want to pray for field needs and find out where you can serve. We hope you like it! By the way, where are you planning to serve in 2003?

People Group Focus:

Muslim immigrants in Western Europe*

*Because there are so many kinds of Muslim peoples from many different countries, this people group focus is actually about a population segment.

Many Muslims from various predominantly Islamic countries are pouring into Western Europe in search of a better life. Some are immigrants, but many wait in the holding tanks of crowded refugee centers, waiting to hear if they can stay in their adopted country of choice.

Stories from the field:

Prayer Points

  • Pray that students will come to work with the Muslim refugees in Western Europe. Ask the God to send laborers to the harvest field!
  • Pray for Christian workers in the camps as they prepare their lessons and pray for those who hear their lessons. May the eyes of their hearts be opened to the Truth!
  • Lift up the West Africans in France who have recently received the "Jesus" film. Ask God to open their eyes to the Truth as they watch it.
  • Petition that as Christian workers in Western Europe exhibit the Father's love among the Muslim immigrants, many will want to experience a personal relationship with Him.

School Assignments for God's Glory

You can make those term papers assignments and projects count for eternity in heaven.

  • If you have to write a paper for English class about a personal experience, write about the mission project you participated in last summer or during winter break.
  • If your history class requires a term paper about an episode of history, write about the history of a people group in Asia or Africa.
  • If your sociology teacher wants you to write about the "values" of a culture that cause people to act a certain way, write about the values of the Christian culture or the values of another people group's culture.

The research you do will help you in the future to share the gospel around the world - it may even help a missionary right now!

Persecuted Church

Yemen

A single Yemeni gunman entered the Baptist hospital compound in Jibla, Yemen, on Dec. 20, 2002, and shot four American hospital workers, killing three and injuring the fourth.

Hospital administrator William E. Koehn, purchasing agent Kathleen A. Gariety and physician Martha C. Myers were killed and pharmacist Donald W. Caswell was injured in the early morning attack.

The Americans were involved in a meeting at the beginning of the work day at the hospital when the gunman burst into the room and opened fire.

Koehn, Gariety and Myers were killed immediately. The gunman reportedly then moved to another room, where he wounded Caswell. He also aimed his gun at a Filipino hospital employee, but the weapon did not fire.

A 35-year-old Yemeni man surrendered to hospital security personnel and was taken into custody.

"People here loved these people so much," Rock said. "Yesterday Bill gave sacks of wheat and sugar to widows and divorced women in city. He's been doing that almost every month with relief donations we receive."

"The people here who love us are decimated even more than we are, because they don't see the big picture," she said. "But the Bible says 'Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the blood of his saints.' The church is built on the blood of the martyrs, and any of those three people would have gladly given their lives for that."
