Dear returning Journeyman/ICSer :
The Baptist Student Ministry at the University of Maryland has a long history of engaging our large international student population with the message of Jesus Christ. Our most recent International Student Director, a former ISCer to China, has just returned to China in March 2006, and we need someone to replace him beginning August 1, 2006. His predecessor was a Journeyman to Kenya.
This is a paid position, and offers a returning Jman/ISCer a great place to land, continue effective cross-cultural ministry, and seek God's guidance for a "next step" in life. The compensation package is $20,000 over 12 months, and offers you the opportunity to take a part-time position or raise the remainder of your support as a Mission Service Corps volunteer with the North American Mission Board. We expect the new director to commit to serve for at least one year, but entertain your coming to love the position for many years. There is also an operating budget of $900 for each school year.
If you are interested in learning more about the position, please contact me by email, and we will begin the process of determining if this position is right for you. Timing is crucial at this point. I would like to fill this position by July 1, so respond quickly.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Buffkin

Seeking: returning Journeyman/ISCers
What: International Student Director with the Baptist Student Ministry, UMD
When: at least one year, beginning August 2006
Job Description:To expose international students at the University of Maryland to the message of Jesus Christ and a lifestyle of following Him by engaging them through service, friendship, and Christian community. (A more in depth description and copy of the contract can be forwarded upon request.)
Vision for the University of Maryland:
International students are among the most spiritually receptive segments of the university population. Nationwide, India and China rank #1 and #2, respectively, in placing students within the U.S. university system. These two countries have long been and continue to be the focus of much overseas missions work, and now many of their best and brightest are coming here to study. In addition, students from numerous restricted access countries in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East are enrolled in America's colleges and universities.
The University of Maryland College Park is one of the most significant places of ministry to international students in the world. Overall, UMD ranks 12th among all U.S. universities in total international student enrollment, with 3,726 students (fall 2003). Along the entire eastern seaboard, from Maine to Florida, UMD ranks 4th in international student enrollment, behind only Columbia, NYU, and Boston University.
More than 130 countries are represented on UMD's campus. In 2003, more than 1,000 international students at UMD were citizens of China and Taiwan. Almost 700 were from India, 343 from South Korea, and 72 from Japan. Of predominantly Muslim nations, the top five countries of origin were Turkey (100 students), Iran (68), Egypt (32), Indonesia (30), and Pakistan (30).
The office of International Education Services is very cooperative, granting favor to the international student ministry of the Baptist Student ministry and other campus ministries at UMD that have volunteered service to these peoples during the last 20 years.
There is a vital and urgent need for God-honoring mission work to these internationals at UMD.
