Guidelines for Traveling by Car

If you travel by car, the following guidelines apply:

  1. Follow the most direct route, driving at least 400 miles per day. The mileage allowance is 50 cents per mile.

  2. The maximum daily meal allowance is $35.00 per adult and children 12 and older ($15.00 per day for children under 12). No receipts are necessary for reimbursement. Report actual costs of meals (not per diem).

  3. The maximum daily lodging allowance is $75 per room based on driving 400 miles per day. Roll-away beds are covered for families of four. Two rooms are allowed for families of five or more. Receipts are needed for motels.

  4. Total reimbursement (mileage, meals and lodging) for driving cannot exceed the cost of economy airfare for your family.
