Suggested Schedule for an Adoption Weekend
Saturday
Night (6pm to 8:30pm)
A fellowship supper with 1 ½ to 2 hours after supper for
the following...
·
An introduction of the UPG using as many visuals as possible (maps,
videos, pictures, artifacts, food). Areas covered should include
Historical background, Culture (especially unique values and practices),
Economy, Politics, and especially Religious beliefs and practices.
·
An explanation of what it means to reach this UPG and this church's
role in achieving this. Here you can go into detail regarding specific
strategies.
·
Details on how to communicate securely and explanation of terms
such as platforms, as well as any other security issues.
·
Provide enough copies of a prayer request sheet for each person
present. This needs to be drawn up in consultation with the missionaries
and should be as specific as possible.
·
Allow for and encourage questions and comments throughout, and wrap
up with a question and answer time.
·Have
a time of prayer that can be done in small groups to allow for maximum
participation.
Sunday
Morning
Arrange to preach or have someone preach on the church's role in
missions. Romans 10:13- 15 is a good passage that speaks of 'sending'.
Conclude the service with a time of commitment, where you and any
relevant others kneel at the altar to represent the UPG, while the
pastor kneels to represent the church. Members of the church family
then come forward, while the pianist plays, and lay hands on and
pray for the commitment to the UPG.
