Praying Children

Children gather on their own at a Baptist Church in a Nairobi slum to pray. The pastor says he just opened the church and the children continued to come everyday to pray for peace in their country. Since the children started praying, no violence or deaths have happened in their section of this slum.

Kenya, normally a stable African country, erupted into violence after the Dec. 27, 2007 election. More than 1,000 people died and 600,000 were internally displaced. Opposition say the election was rigged. International observers say both sides cheated and there’s no way to know who won. Kenyans started protesting with riots on Dec. 29. The polls were finally announced Dec. 30. Election violence quickly turned into ethnic animosity — tribe turning against tribe — friend against friend.
