Evangelical Christian weddings in Moldova are similar to their American counterparts. Orthodox weddings take place in the Russian Orthodox Church with a priest officiating. The priest chants several songs and readings and then leads the couple around the altar three times, for the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, while someone holds a crown above their heads. There are other readings, chants, rituals, and candle lighting.
