In Catholic areas such as southern Germany or Austria, you will find small monuments of Jesus’ crucifixion or “Wegkreuz.” These serve as a sign of the faithfulness of the people in that area. These crosses are usually found at intersections of rural roads or walking paths. Faithful Catholics will cross themselves or pray as they pass one of these monuments.
