Equipping Indigenous Church Leaders

Equip indigenous church leaders to grow healthy churches that build mature disciples of Jesus Christ and help complete the Great Commission.

The church in East Asia is growing! As new believers come into the fold, however, church leaders with limited ministry skills are struggling to keep up with the demands. These church leaders desire to grow in Biblical understanding, pastoral ministry, and spiritual leadership to be fruitful shepherds for their people, but few have access to seminary or theological training resources.

Your gift will support training events for pastors and church leaders, teaching them critical topics such as theology, church growth and administration, Sunday school programs, praise and worship, evangelism, missions, and more. Your partnership will also underwrite mentoring programs for key pastors, helping them grow personally in Christ and coaching them through real life ministry issues. Due to the restrictive nature of ministry in East Asia, much of this equipping ministry will be done through secure internet teaching sites and digital media.

Personnel serving in East Asia seek partners who share the vision of a Great Commission church, embrace biblically sound evangelical theology, and promote leadership training methods aimed at multiplication. Is this you? If God is tugging at your heart to help East Asian pastors augment their shepherding and discipleship skills, give today to this ministry project The maturing churches that arise will glorify Christ Jesus in their fellowship and by taking the gospel to the unreached peoples of East Asia and the world!

You are helping spread the gospel in East Asia.

Thank you so much for supporting the Equipping Indigenous Church Leaders ministry project in East Asia. Our work simply wouldn’t be possible without your prayer and support. We hope you enjoy reading a few recent updates and stories from three members of our team. “Your generous financial gifts to this ministry significantly benefited the pastors and several ministry leaders of a house church network. Using the funds, we provided a theological and ministry-leadership training program for this church network at which twenty-five ministry leaders were more thoroughly equipped to shepherd their congregations. During 2019, this network started another church, held several evangelistic events and, in the spring of 2020, baptized 10 adults and three children. Due to COVID, we had to suspend the training program for an undetermined time. The leader of this network consistently asks me when we will be able to continue the training because more ministry leaders in their network want to be better equipped for their ministry responsibilities. Thank you for your gift to equip indigenous leaders! You are helping to spread the gospel across our area through their influence.” -Oscar* “Through this ministry, brothers and sisters are maturing in their walk with the Lord. We are blessed to see groups from different churches and house church networks study God’s word together. Leaders are casting the vision of the unreached coming to know Christ, and these brothers and sisters have caught the vision. They are adopting and reaching Unreached Unengaged People Groups (UUPGs)! Because of your generosity, we were able to provide quarterly theological classes through a two-year program called Advance. Every student who attends these classes is required to go on a UUPG mission trip before graduation. The students are so impacted with God’s mission to the unreached that they not only go on a UUPG trip, but every year they continue go and recruit more to go with them to the ends of the earth. These students and alumni are continuing to grow, go and teach others how to sow gospel seeds. We live in exciting times, and because of your sacrificial giving these brothers and sister are able to make disciples who make disciples. You are part of the eternal impact God is making through them in their cities, province and beyond.” – Jason* “As church planting strategists in a large East Asian city, we seek to start and develop churches in that city and the surrounding area. We share the gospel among a particular group and, after seeing some come to faith, we begin discipling them and developing leaders. The new leaders will help shepherd that group and lead them to share the gospel in the other cities, towns and villages. Natural connections are a good place to start the work since many city dwellers have family in these surrounding areas. Often, they have come to the big city to find work, but their true community is in a nearby town or village. So, we encourage the new believers to begin sharing with their natural connections – think going back to your hometown and sharing with family and friends. One village we call “E Village” is the hometown of sister Fran*. Fran has been a follower of Jesus for less than five years but has grown in her faith and has led several people to Christ. Her church, MG Church (a church that was started by IMB personnel in the big city), has the vision to start new outreach points and churches. Since Fran has been sharing the gospel in E Village over the last two years, her parents, several of her aunts and uncles, and some other relatives have come to faith and have been baptized. The work that was started in E Village has been using funds that Southern Baptists like you gave through Equipping Indigenous Church Leaders to assist in the development of the Outreach Point at Earth Village. Thanks to your gift, you have been a part of seeing a group of people that at one time had literally never heard of Jesus to now seeing some of them having a personal relationship with the King. Although Covid-19 and other circumstances has affected a lot of our work, we are grateful that MG Church continues to faithfully follow up with the brothers and sisters of E Village. We are grateful for you as your gift has been a vital part of this Kingdom Work.” – Dan* Thank you again for your incredible generosity.

Location

Asian Pacific Rim Peoples

From the skyscrapers of Hong Kong and vast plains of Mongolia to smoky rainforests hiding winding rivers edged by golden sands, the natural beauty and long history of these Asia-Pacific Rim countries testify to God’s creative hand. This vast region houses four of the most populous global cities, as well as the country with the world's largest nominal population of Muslims.

Spirituality swirls through cities and countryside like the smoke from temple incense sticks. Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, animists, Daoists and ancestor worshipers live here, comprising 851 unreached people groups who have never heard that freedom is found in Christ. Pray for divine appointments for Christian workers to share that Jesus is the way to peace with God and eternal life. Ask God to glorify His name among the peoples of the Asian Pacific Rim Peoples affinity.
