Rattana* is a local church member deeply burdened for her neighbors. She sensed God calling her to take a bold step of faith and open her home to gather for worship.

She recognized that many in her impoverished community could not travel to church, as they face both financial and physical barriers.

Over the past couple of months, Rattana’s pastor and fellow church members have joined her in monthly outreach efforts in her neighborhood, including glasses clinics.

Rattana’s neighborhood is just one of many areas around Bangkok where God is using your generosity to this ministry to impact lostness.

In another area, the local church is faithfully stepping beyond its walls to bring the hope of the gospel directly to people who might never otherwise encounter it. Rather than waiting for people to come, this church is going to them.

Your gifts helped train church members to host eyeglasses clinics, a simple but powerful outreach that meets real, practical needs. God is already at work:

• One person has accepted Christ.
• Several others in the neighborhood are showing online interest in the gospel.
• The new church is meeting each Saturday night for worship in Rattana’s home.

Pastor Somchai* struggled to find ways to help his small congregation engage the lost in their community. They wanted to serve their neighbors and tell them about Christ’s love. They tried several different outreach activities, but nothing seemed to connect.

But that’s only the beginning of the story.

Pastor Somchai heard about another church using an eyeglasses clinic to share the gospel. Your generosity enabled that clinic to minister to their neighbors.

He wondered whether a vision clinic would work in his community. Would people respond? How could his congregation learn to put on a clinic?

That’s where you enter this story.

Your gifts allowed us to host an eyeglasses clinic at Pastor Somchai’s church, where we worked with a partnering church from the U.S. to train church members to host their own clinic.

The entire church turned up, and all 40 were trained. Now, another church is excited to share Jesus as they serve their friends and neighbors.

When Chantana* accepted Christ, she was excited to share her newfound joy with her neighbors. She wanted them to see Jesus as a loving Savior instead of following the religious rituals into which they were born. Because of your gifts, Chantana was able to invite 40 of her neighbors to come to her house to have their eyes checked by reading a gospel tract. Seven of the 40 became believers! Together, they started a new Bible study in their remote community, with 14 attending regularly.

A partnership provided four optometry lens sets for missionaries and national partners to use as an outreach tool. A local church began using them to check people’s vision. The nearby Muslim community appreciated that the church was helping them, and many are now open to gospel conversations. Previously, numerous efforts to build relationships and establish trust were attempted in that district, and national believers were frustrated at the lack of response. Nothing they tried led to interest from even a single person, but the lens set arrived and opened doors for the gospel.

“These [lens] sets opened doors like never before,” said the local pastor. “Many spiritual conversations resulted from using gospel tracts to measure their eyesight.” Most of those who attended the clinic had never heard the gospel. Because of your gifts, the gospel is moving into areas previously closed to hearing the good news.

• Ask the Lord to provide a fifth lens set so each region can use these for outreach.
• Thank God for the Great Commission vision of these national believers who long to share the gospel with Muslims in a neighboring district.
• Ask God to continue blessing these eye clinics as connection points with unreached people groups and opportunities to communicate God’s love and hope.
