Sunny was baptized this past July. He is mentored by Aljon, another student, who led Sunny to the Lord. These young men are growing into men of God and learning to be evangelists and disciplers through the People of Promise campus ministry. Sunny now leads weekly Bible studies in his village, one of more than 200 communities in the province that have no gospel witness of any kind, and he is training others as leaders, too. He also accompanies an IMB missionary to another village to evangelize and disciple. God has changed Sunny’s life, and he is only one of the many high school and college students who IMB missionaries are training to reach this generation for Christ through the POP campus ministry.
The campus ministry focuses on training student believers to reach non-believing students so that more and more students are saved. Ultimately, these new believers will take the gospel into the unreached villages when they go home on holidays. The students need a place to gather for discipleship and to bring their non-believing friends. Your gift will help underwrite ministry costs and establish a ministry center in a central village near the provincial capital. A large public university is located near the POP Student Center, and a large high school is in the same village.
Your generosity to the People of Promise Campus Ministry and Student Center will fund
· A weekly meal at the student center so that believers can bring unbelievers. A testimony and the gospel will be shared after the meal.
· Bibles for the students so that they can grow in the Lord and share God’s Word in their home villages
· Training materials for evangelism and discipleship classes
· Utilities, including electricity, water and internet
· Supplies for the sports and games such as table tennis balls, table tennis paddles, basketballs, volleyballs, table games, prizes for winners. These games are a great way to introduce non-believers to the student center community.
The student center has outside areas for ping-pong, basketball, volleyball and badminton. The spacious inside includes areas for study groups, Bible studies and table games along with weekly for prayer meetings, basic theological training of leaders, and Sunday church services.
American college students join the ministry during June and July. They help Filipino students with English and cultural exchange. The most inspiring part of the partnership is the way the American students share and live their faith.
Other volunteer leaders provide the following as needed or requested:
1) tutor (especially English)
2) teach voice, keyboard, guitar and ukulele
3) assist students with projects
4) lead planned ministry activities
5) share the gospel with individuals and small groups
God is using students such as Sunny and Aljon, through the mentorship of IMB missionaries, to reach their generation for Christ. Many of the college students attending the campus ministry come from the villages without a biblical/gospel witness. As more and more students are saved, baptized and discipled, they will be the catalyst for the Holy Spirit to do what only he can do in their home villages. Give today to help the POP Campus Ministry and Student Center propel the gospel across local school campuses and out into the unreached villages of this province.
Wrapped in rainforests, edged by golden sands and winding rivers, and crowned by volcanoes, the tropical beauty of Southeast Asia testifies to God’s creative hand. Rich in history, culture, and tradition, the countries of Southeast Asia step boldly towards the future with one foot planted firmly in the past. Spirituality swirls through cities and countryside like the smoke from temple incense sticks.
The 20,000 islands of Southeast Asia are home to 2,694 people groups and includes the world’s most populous Muslim country. The nations of Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea are home to 638 unreached people groups comprised of Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, and animists who have never heard that freedom is found in Christ.
Southeast Asians welcome spiritual conversations. Pray for divine appointments for Christian workers to share that Jesus is the way to peace with God and eternal life.
