Ar’oer, an Iron-age fortified city, is mentioned in I Samuel. After destroying the Amalekites, David sent gifts to the elders of this city, sharing the spoils of the battle with Ar’oer. The Herodian style of cut stones, pictured here, indicates the structure might have been built by Herod.
