Handmade Fabrics

Women from the Sikka people group on the Indonesian island of Flores make handmade blankets and fabrics from locally produced materials. With their natural dyes, the process to create the rich, vibrant, colors takes two years. The yarns are dyed for three months, the dye is changed, and the process repeats. Weaving a large blanket can take more than two weeks of work at a handloom.
