Ger districts can be found in most Mongolian cities. These low-cost neighborhoods comprise traditional tent-like homes located in outer parts of the city, which usually lack basic infrastructure and utilities. An estimated 60 percent of Ulaanbaatar’s population lives in ger districts. They provide the only affordable habitations for large numbers of urban migrants from the countryside.
