Joss (good luck) sticks are usually lit in bundles from a constant source of flame (often an oil lamp) then placed individually, or in threes, in censers in front of the statues of various significant deities and celestial beings. Coiled incense hangs from the ceiling of the temple and can burn for up to two weeks.
