A woman’s shadow is cast on a tablet inscribed with a poem in Farsi at the tomb of Hafez, a 14th century Iranian poet, in Shiraz, Iran. This tomb, along with other poets’ tombs, serves as a popular pilgrimage site in Iran. Poetry is a big part of Iranian culture. A common saying in Iran is that every Iranian home has at least two books: a Quran and a book of Hafez’s poetry.
