Way of the Cross

The Roman Catholic church celebrates Good Friday in Rome, Italy by hosting the Via Crucis or Way of the Cross at the Colosseum. This is somber event that follows Christ’s journey through the Stations of the Cross. Attenders listen by candlelight as the liturgy is read while a procession carries a cross to each station. The Pope presides over the ceremony opposite the Colosseum in the shadow of the ancient Temple of Venus and Rome.
