Konya is the birthday place of Sufism and the Whirling Dervishes so the whirling dervish sign/logo/statue/picture is prevalent throughout the city. In 1273 followers of the recently deceased Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi established the Sufi order of the Whirling Dervishes in the city of Konya.
