Spend six months in Southeast Asia building meaningful relationships through your interests. This residency is designed for a pair of young adults (ages 20–29) who love connecting with people through casual games (board games, cards, and sports like pickleball, badminton, ping pong, and futsal). You’ll be tasked to enter local communities, make friends, and deepen those relationships with the goal of sharing the gospel and life with people as you point them to Christ.
You’ll be given time to invest deeply in the lives of those you meet. This is a highly relational and flexible role, ideal for someone who enjoys hanging out, listening well, and being intentional in everyday conversations.
In addition to in-person ministry, if it fits you, there’s space to contribute to digital outreach based on your skills. There may be a place to volunteer at a local school and help lead games and basic English lessons, although that’s not required and only if it fits you.
This is a relational, flexible, and immersive opportunity to grow in cross-cultural ministry, discipleship, and evangelism. This residency is not about running programs. It’s about living missionally, being present, and helping lay the foundation for long-term ministry among young adults.
Residency – An opportunity to serve on mission for one or two semesters while being mentored by an IMB field missionary. Active members of Southern Baptist churches receive a subsidy, which includes travel to/from Orientation/Debrief at ILC, room and board at Orientation/Debrief, travel to/from the field and emergency insurance. There is no subsidy for applicants who are not members of a Southern Baptist Church. All monies raised or donated in excess of the stated cost of this particular Residency trip will be used to offset the additional, subsidized field cost expenditure for the student. These monies may also be used to supplement the broader cost of ministry related to the Residency program, in general. Application deadlines: Fall Residency trips: deadline to apply is May 1. Spring Residency trips: deadline to apply is October 1.
