Mosque in Bole

One of Ghana’s remaining six mud mosques, the Bole mosque is an example of the Sudanic style of Sudano-Sahelian architecture. It is located near the center of Bole in the Bole District of Ghana’s Northern Region. Crumbling Mosque

One of Ghana’s few remaining historic mud mosques, now in ruins. This mosque had a unique design inspired by the Sudanic and Djenne architectural styles. It had buttresses like Sudanic mosques but only one tower (now collapsed) like the Djenne style seen in Woriyanga, Ghana. After the initial collapse of the roof, it was replaced with zinc but eventually the building fell in due to disuse as the newer, larger mosque was built just behind it. Traditionally, unused mosques are not demolished but instead are just left to the elements.
