A ship passes through the Miraflores Locks in the Panama Canal in Panama City, Panama. A system of locks lifts and lowers ships for passage between the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean. The locks at Miraflores are also a tourist destination with a visitors’ center that provides a viewing area.
