In Senegal, some families give young sons to an imam to learn the Quran. The “Talibes” are then sent into the streets to beg. In 2006 Southern Baptist missionaries took a group of student volunteers from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, to minister to the Talibes. The students bathed the younger Talibes in a medicated soap and applied medicine to rashes caused by scabies mites.
