Wedding photo of missionaries Sallie and Landrum Holmes, 1858. They sailed to China that same year, but their work together in China was cut short when Landrum was murdered by rebels in 1861. Sallie, who shortly after Landrum’s death discovered she was expecting another child, stayed on as a single mother to share the gospel in China for 20 more years.
