Yokohama, Japan

(yoh-kuh-HAH-muh) - Recently, a young church held their first ever vacation Bible school (VBS). Neighbors and contacts from church members came, and they experienced the love of Jesus and heard the words of Jesus. Another local church held its VBS with desires to show the local children and their parents that they are precious in God's eyes. Nine-year-old Alice attended and started to ask questions about sin. She is in the same class as a church member and has become a close friend. Pray that God will open Alice's heart to receiving His saving grace and that these local churches will have more opportunities to build relationships with the children and families in their neighborhoods.

Sub-Saharan African Peoples
Wassulu of Mali, Guinea, and Cote d’Ivoire

(WAH-soo-loo) - As you may be aware, the availability and cost of basic goods in many parts of Africa have become very concerning issues. The impact of what has been happening in the world due to conflicts elsewhere has been more than evident in Wassulu villages. Grains that are central to the Wassulu diet--primarily corn--have greatly increased in price and are scarce at times. There are similar issues with other basic and necessary ingredients such as flour, oil, tea, and sugar. Pray for discernment as lead Wassulu workers make decisions about how best to allocate support for the pastors working with the Wassulu, and how they should assist the believers whom these men work with, as well. Peace can be found in knowing that God is sovereign over it all and His purposes will be known! For example, the unsettling events in the world, combined with regional problems in West Africa, have also created many internally displaced people (IDPs). In turn, Wassulu workers are able to share the gospel with many other people groups who are nearby them for a time as IDPs! Give thanks for this additional "domino effect," which is obviously for God's purposes!

The Makhuwa-Marrevone people along the coast of Mozambique are part of a major world religion. Pray that the Holy Spirit will prepare their hearts for the good news of eternal life in Christ alone. Pray that the Lord of the harvest will send forth laborers to the Makhuwa-Marrevone harvest fields.

People of Central Taiwan

Taiwan Baptist churches and the Chinese (Taiwan) Baptist Convention are emphasizing the importance of prayer through revival prayer groups. Pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance in both the convention and the local Baptist churches. Pray for Baptist pastors throughout Taiwan and for the new leadership in the convention. As they truly understand and preach the Word, pray that the Holy Spirit will convict and create lasting changes in believers and a desire to live for Christ. Pray for believers to truly surrender all to the lordship of Jesus.

Mbya of South America

(m'BYAH) - Please pray that more Paraguayan evangelical churches will become involved in reaching out to the Mbya people in their country. Ask the Holy Spirit to help them to see how much God wants the indigenous people to be saved through Jesus, also. Pray that the Holy Spirit will enable them to support the Paraguayan brothers who are working among the Mbya people.

Kampala, Uganda

(kahm-PAH-lah) - "On the mission field, we often face issues of creating dependency when helping others. Our Kampala Urban Team has to wrestle with this every time there is a knock on the gate or a phone call with someone asking for money. For many years, Uganda has been inundated with large nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) with a 'build it and they will come' mentality. In some Ugandans, this has created an unhealthy mindset that they cannot do anything on their own. We have, where needed, consistently pointed people back to their own resources, and, thankfully, we are seeing more and more that Africans are claiming responsibility for their churches and ministries. Recently, the Kampala Baptist Association has joined together with Send Relief to help meet the dire needs of people experiencing drought in the region of Kaabong. They have raised a significant amount of funds to directly affect the livelihood of many families! Would you pray that the Kampala Baptist Association will continue growing and that they will use their resources to continue spreading the love of Christ?"

Northern African and Middle Eastern Peoples
Gateway City on the Arabian Peninsula

Most of life in the Islamic world revolves around the family, and community is very important. It is not unusual for a Muslim who comes to Jesus to be ostracized by their family, at the very least. Many times, they are physically and/or psychologically abused. Sometimes, believing women are put under house arrest, and they may be cut off financially. Pray that Muslim-background believers in Gateway City will have the endurance to carry on. Pray that they will be filled with such joy that their families will know that their lives have been radically changed! Pray for wisdom in knowing how to share the gospel with their families. Pray for a community of local believers with whom they can fellowship and worship.

Chinese in Northern Africa and the Middle East

Illegal gambling and human trafficking, which bring great suffering to other parts of the world, are also present in Northern Africa and the Middle East. Though authorities are seeking to halt these activities, the toll on individuals, families, and communities is still immense. Pray for Chinese people who become trapped in these vices to reach out for help in their dire circumstances and moral dilemmas. Ask God to guide the authorities and other people seeking to help set things right in their countries. Pray that they will be "wise as serpents and innocent as doves" (Matthew 10:16). Pray for God's justice in dealing with those who set out to harm others, and for His mercy in protecting those who are being led into temptation and danger. Pray for God's ways be known among the nations (Psalm 67:2) so that all may praise His name.

Central Asian Peoples

With a worldwide population of about 5,000, most Glacier People live in an area where some of the highest glaciers in Central Asia lie. They rarely speak of religion among themselves since different villages adhere to different branches of Islam. In the past, there's been a lot of animosity. The Glacier People struggle not just with physical strife, but also spiritual strife. There are only a few Glacier People believers. One brother recently married an unbelieving young woman. Please pray that she will come to trust in Jesus as her Savior. Also pray for her to make friends in her new town. Pray for all Glacier brothers' spiritual growth and maturity, and ask they will be bold, courageous, and willing to share their faith with the people God places in their lives. Please lift up a Bible translation effort that is underway; pray for the resources and for the perseverance of all those who are working on this translation. Also pray that churches in the United States will commit to praying for the Glacier People on a consistent and frequent basis. (If your church would like to make such a commitment, please connect with workers by sending an email indicating that.)

Braj Speakers of Uttar Pradesh, India

(bruhj) - Pray for Mathura. For Hindus, Mathura is considered a holy place because they believe it is the birthplace of one of their gods. Mathura is a major pilgrimage site, even attracting Hindu followers who live outside of India. Though the district of Mathura is home to more than 2.5 million people, only 0.12% of them are Christians. Pray for gospel saturation, for mature disciples to be made, and for healthy churches to be planted in Mathura. Pray for the Braj speakers of Mathura to feel a void as they worship idols, and ask that they will find peace in Christ alone. Please pray for the believers in Mathura to be strengthened and to boldly proclaim the gospel to the lost around them. Pray that local leaders will be raised up to take ownership of this district.

Afar of Northern Africa

(AH-far) - "Older women . . . are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled" (Titus 2:3-5 ESV). A healthy church needs more than believing men. Older women are best suited to teach younger women what it means to follow Jesus. When men and women together are growing in the image of Jesus, then healthy families can be born. Pray for the older believers among Afar women, asking that God will use them to train up the young women, thereby facilitating healthy church growth.
