Religion, culture, and identity are deeply intertwined in northern Africa. From birth, your identity and sense of belonging is connected to your parents' religion. Despite cultural pressures and persecution, some people hear the truth and their eyes are opened. They understand that following Jesus is worth sacrificing everything else. Pray for new believers, like Mary, who have taken the step to believe but are facing challenges. Her family has experienced sickness and other hardships since she made a confession of faith, and she fears that it might be spiritual punishment from evil spirits for turning to Jesus. She has distanced herself from the believer who was discipling her. Pray that her faith and the faith of other new believers will not be on rocky soil, but will take deep root in good soil so that "when distress or persecution comes because of the word," they will not "immediately fall away" (Mark 4:17 CSB).
Two volunteer teams from a Texas church are working with the Harvester People this month. The teams hope to bolster the confidence of local believers' evangelism skills by having Bible studies that the local believers will lead. Some evenings, several local families will come to eat dinner with the team to share American food and games. No women attend the local worship gatherings, so the team will engage women by having the local women teach the team how to prepare a national meal so that they may engage the women in conversation and, it is hoped, have gospel conversations. Please pray for these volunteer teams to glorify God and for the local believers to have the confidence to share the good news of Jesus.
http://www.imb.org/sub-saharan-africa/ EngagementZRT@outlook.com(MAHD-yuh pruh-DESH) - Pray for the Khaper family as they move from their home village to a neighboring area. Their heart is to continue faithful ministry in their home village and also start work in the new area, but they need to establish healthy family rhythms in this new place. Pray that they will follow the Lord's guidance in where to live, the time they spend together, and how to do faithful follow-up among existing Bible study groups in the coming months.
Please ask God to send more missionaries to join the ministries in southeastern Korea. Believers are needed who are ready to unite in Christ and minister to the young adults of the Gen Z generation and foreign migrants from all over the world. Believers with experience in sports, music, ministry, recreation, camps, and teaching ESL are needed because they can have many opportunities to greatly impact people with the gospel through these platforms. Please pray for missionaries as they speak at events and in churches to recruit new missionaries for the southeast region. Please pray for God to equip and send forth those of His choosing to reach the Gen Z and international migrants with the gospel so they in turn can reach others in Korea and around the world.
"Please join us in praying for a young entrepreneur who is managing three businesses. He remains open to friendship and conversation. We pray that he and his family will be receptive to the good news of the gospel. May their hearts be softened and their minds opened to the transformative message of Jesus Christ, leading them to embrace faith and find true purpose and fulfillment in Him. Amen."
www.imb.org/give/project/coastal-state-team/ seainbox@proton.meThe women's eyes twinkled with excitement as they shared in detail about what church looked like in their home country. They described the way candles were used and the various traditions. They miss their church community, but they are thankful to feel safer in their new home. Sumayya and her mother are refugees living in the Netherlands. They currently reside in a refugee camp and await government appointments that will determine if they will receive residency or not. They love God deeply, but from their religious background, they believe that you are a Christian if you are born and raised in that community. Please pray for these women to receive residency soon. Pray for them also to grow in their love for the Lord and a deeper understanding of the good news, one that only comes through a personal relationship with Jesus.
(OO-tar pra-DESH) - Razi recently led a previously Muslim religious leader named Shahid to the Lord. However, they have only been able to meet online for a study of the Word rather than in person. Shahid has been facing intense pressure and ridicule from his family members for following Jesus, but he is determined to remain faithful. Please pray that Razi and Shahid will be able to find a safe opportunity to meet in person to read the Word and fellowship with each other. Pray that Shahid will continue to endure faithfully under trials while also growing deeply in his new faith.
(LOH-zee) - This past year, the rainy season in the Western Province of Zambia was far from sufficient. Pray for the Lozi who rely on the rains to grow crops, asking that the Lord will send good rains this year. Pray for the churches as they reach out into the community to help those who are suffering. Ask that Jesus will be made known through the compassionate efforts of the churches.
http://www.imb.org/sub-saharan-africa/(KIR-giz) - In the local fellowships, there is the need for a bolder sharing of the gospel. Many are actually hiding their faith. Please lift up these followers of Jesus, and ask that fear of persecution will give way to trust and boldness as they walk with the Father.
centralasianpeoples@protonmail.com(kahm-PAH-lah) - "Our desire is to see African churches sending African missionaries to the ends of the earth. It is exciting that local pastors and churches in Uganda are 'catching a vision' for cross-cultural ministry and missions! Recently, our Kampala Urban Team hosted visitors from Kenya who made connections with pastors and associational leaders to discuss missional opportunities. Pray that Kampala churches will both send and receive African missionaries. Pray that God will give clear wisdom regarding the next steps for this to become a reality."
http://www.imb.org/sub-saharan-africa/Thanks to your faithful prayers for the Eternal Peace Primary Care Clinic, residents of the Starfruit Village, and surrounding area continue to receive quality healthcare in Jesus's name. The team frequently does home health visits where they can have extended conversations about hope in Jesus. Additionally, over the past twelve months, 35 expectant mothers received ultrasound screenings. Many of these had not previously received an ultrasound at the government clinic. One mother found out she was having a boy. Another mother found out her child was a girl. All were astonished at the high-quality pictures and at seeing their babies growing inside their wombs. Many of the mothers refer their friends to the clinic. The machine from the Psalm 139 project has been a tremendous enhancement to the clinic services. Dr. Rick, the clinic Director, plans to provide counseling and referral services for mothers considering abortion so they will choose life. Pray with us for the ongoing efforts at the Eternal Peace Clinic to be bold witnesses for Jesus Christ. Pray during October and November as the clinic works to renew its five-year operational license.
