Sub-Saharan African Peoples

This month, there will be Africa Baptist Theological Education Network (ABTEN) regional meetings where members will come together in person for the first time in a few years, which they had been unable to do because of COVID-19. Pray that these meetings will be well attended and that a spirit of unity, optimism, and momentum will infuse each meeting.

This month, Urdu-speaking Muslims are preparing to celebrate Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice). During this holiday, each household that is able to will purchase and then sacrifice an animal to commemorate Abraham's sacrifice of a ram in place of his son. Where Christians recognize this as an early picture of the substitutionary atonement of Jesus (Hebrews 9:22), the Muslim community sees Abraham's sacrifice as food distribution to the poor, so the meat from the sacrifice is given to family members, neighbors, and the poor, hoping for good favor from Allah. Urdu-speaking believers often share the good news as a story that traces the theme of sacrifice from Genesis through the resurrection of Christ. Please pray that as they share the good news this month, it will resonate in the hearts of those who are still part of an empty sacrificial system that offers no hope for salvation. Pray that many will place their faith in Jesus, the final and greatest sacrifice and the world's only hope for atonement.

Asian Pacific Rim Peoples
People of Southern Taiwan

Many Christians in southern Taiwan are the only believers in their families. Some face strong opposition from family members, while others face disappointment but tolerance of their decision to follow Christ. Sue has been a believer for many years and has diligently prayed for her family. She recently returned home to care for her elderly father, Mr. Young, who is unwell. At first, she would pray over him silently as he slept so as not to displease her mother or siblings. Eventually, she began boldly voicing her prayers aloud and singing praise songs over him. Her father heard and responded. He indicated that he, too, wanted to follow Jesus! Would you pray for Mr. Young? Pray for his health to rebound so he can share with his family and take care of important family matters. Pray for the many other families in Taiwan who, like the Young family, are resistant to the gospel. May their hearts be open to the truth. Pray for Christians not to grow weary in praying persistently for their family members. May they be encouraged in their faith as they trust in the Lord with all their heart and acknowledge Him in all they do.

Forgotten People of the Horn of Africa

One believing man, Paul, was recently given a business opportunity that will allow him to enter regularly into a new area where some of the Forgotten People live. For quite some time, this area has been dangerous for people from other groups to enter and to spend time in. Currently, there are very few known believers in this area. Paul's desire is to do his job and to encourage those believers while there. Please pray for Paul's safety while traveling, asking that he will have wisdom in balancing his job and kingdom work. Pray that he will have good opportunities to meet with the local believers and to share with lost Forgotten People. Pray that the Father will prepare hearts and minds for Paul's arrival.

Deaf Peoples

Worker Gretchen Snow recently arrived in a Southeast Asian country. Her visa requires her to do volunteer work at the Deaf school weekly as a teacher to satisfy government immigration office requirements in order to stay in the country for a year. The Deaf school's principal and staff are screening Gretchen's background and work experiences to see if they can allow her to work at the Deaf school. Pray for God's grace to touch the principal and staff to give approval for Gretchen to enter this work with Deaf youth in the classroom. Pray for Deaf youth and Deaf staff to be open to conversations with her, without barriers. Pray that Gretchen's attitude and actions will be like Jesus so that the Deaf youth will see His light in her and God will use her to work there for His glory.

Czech Republic

Summer is prime time for camps of all sorts in the Czech Republic! Baptist representatives use this opportunity to provide an introduction to the gospel at many different camps for families and children. Hundreds of children will hear the good news and see Christian love in action through Baptist representatives and volunteer teams from churches in the United States who are serving at these camps. One specific opportunity this year is the inclusion of a camp at the beginning of July specifically for Ukrainian refugee children. A local Baptist church is cosponsoring this event for these children, and a U.S. volunteer team will be working alongside them to reach this Russian-speaking group. Pray for unity and understanding among those working at this camp, especially as there will be three cultures represented in the leadership. Ask that these creative outreach opportunities will open Czech and Ukrainian eyes to the love of the Lord. Pray that those who come will get connected to local churches to grow. Rejoice and give thanks to God that former camp members are growing in their understanding of and obedience to the Lord!

Central Asian Peoples
Crimean Tatars of Central Asia

(cry-MEE-un tuh-TARS) - Eight years ago, their national homeland was annexed by a foreign power, causing many Crimean Tatars to leave their homes to start over in other cities of Ukraine. But home was still Crimea, where most had extended family. Some Crimean Tatars have been able to make the long, complicated journey to cross the border back into Crimea once a year to see loved ones, but many have been afraid to return due to the political climate in their homeland. Now that same foreign power is at war with Ukraine, further isolating the Crimean Tatars in Crimea from their families and intensifying the oppressive atmosphere there. They fear for their loved ones in Ukraine. They fear the possibility of conscription into the army to fight against what they still consider to be their own country. They fear for their own safety. They are caught in a seemingly hopeless situation and desperately need the hope that is found only in Jesus Christ. Please pray that God will use this ongoing tragedy to stir Crimean Tatars to seek God through His Word. Pray that believers around them will be faithful to share gospel truth with them.

Asian Pacific Rim Peoples

With the school year coming to a close in one country in the Asian Pacific Rim, it's an exciting time of the year, as many churches are preparing to share the gospel through Vacation Bible School-style programs. Please pray for many of these churches, as they are still struggling with attendance and commitment in a not-yet-post-COVID-19 world. As such, most of the churches have had difficulty finding volunteers to serve and teach, and now they're concerned about the reduced number of children who have signed up. Please join in praying: "Lord Jesus, You know the need for laborers/disciple makers, as many people are still very fearful and others have become disconnected from the church. Please give them an urgency to share the gospel and a burden for the lost, especially the next generation. And just as You know the great need for Your hope and truth to penetrate the hearts and lives of people in this nation, we ask You to turn the hearts of those who are far from You so that they may know You, their Creator and King, and live for You. Amen."

Arhuaco of Colombia

(ar-WAH-coh) - Please pray for the students who will be serving in the town of Hopewell, Colombia, through the IMB's Summer Sojourners program. They will be partnering with the youth in a local church to build relationships with Arhuaco youth through English classes and sports. Pray that these relationships will allow the Summer Sojourners the opportunity to share the gospel with these Arhuaco youth. Pray that the youth from the local church will learn to love their Arhuaco neighbors and grow in their boldness to share the gospel with them.

Angola

Pray for a "Tell His Story" evangelism training taking place on July 1-4 in Cunene province. Several of Angola's unengaged, unreached people groups (UUPGs) live in Cunene province, and many of the peoples are nomadic. Some of the training participants live near the areas where the UUPGs roam. Pray for opportunities for followers of Jesus to find these precious souls and share the good news with them. Pray that those who hear the gospel will have receptive hearts.
