"Last month we asked you to pray for Gio, a new believer from the Lola, an unreached people group ," a believer shared. "National disciple-makers went back to visit him last month to continue discipleship, but they didn't make much headway because Gio was often busy with the start of Ramadan and unreliable in keeping plans to meet. Alf, a disciple-maker, is planning to move to this area where the Lola live and open a small coffee shop. Please pray for health, energy, and joy for Alf as he makes plans to open this cafe. Pray for Gio and his friends that have heard the good news and say they want to follow Christ but have far to go in their understanding of what a surrendered life looks like. Please join us in praying that Gio will love the Lord with all his heart, mind, soul, and strength, and he will be interested in studying Scripture. Pray he will mature in his faith, desiring to publicly profess his faith through baptism."
In South Africa, one Baptist theological school exists. It's located in Cape Town, a metropole of over 6 million people. The city's population includes people from most African countries as well as other continents. Baptists founded a seminary in Cape Town 51 years ago during apartheid. The Cape Town Baptist Seminary (CTBS) exists to train the head, heart, and hands of God-called men and women from Cape Town and around the world. During school breaks, students lead holiday clubs (similar to Vacation Bible Schools), share their faith, and baptize new believers. They do this either in Cape Town, another African country, or a country outside of Africa. While in classes, the students witness, begin Bible studies, plant churches, and intern in churches. Their courses are like those at American seminaries. CTBS subsidizes 75% of a student's tuition through generous contributions from Baptists worldwide. The cost of tuition is much less expensive than in the United States. Ask the Father to continue to provide for the students and help them to learn and train well. May He lead each student to the ministry He has planned for them. Pray for the lecturers to stay healthy throughout the January to December school year.
http://www.imb.org/sub-saharan-africa/The nations of southern Africa are host to more than 10,000 different African Initiated Churches. These churches combine African traditional beliefs with aspects of Christianity. Many of these gather annually to celebrate Easter. Please pray that as they meet and gather because of the crucifixion of Christ, the true gospel will be made known and convict them of sin. Pray for an awakening and a celebration as true repentance and biblical salvation takes place. "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32 ESV).
http://www.imb.org/sub-saharan-africa/(OO-tar pra-DESH) - The district of Aligarh in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India, is home to more than 3.5 million people, and many of them are walking in darkness without the hope of the Son. Pray that the gospel will saturate the area. Pray that the local brothers and sisters in Christ who live there will be encouraged to press on in the work to which the Lord has called them.
"Thanks to your prayers, all five migrant workers who are from an area of the world that consists only of unreached people groups (UPG) and unengaged unreached people groups (UUPG) were accepted into a graduate school in the area. The missionaries' national partners assisted with the admissions process. The workers are now reaching out to the local partners with deep gratitude, hoping to build a strong and meaningful relationship with them. Notably, they are all graduates from a prestigious university. Please continue to pray that they will come to know the Lord and be equipped as faithful messengers of the gospel."
"One of my struggles before accepting the call from the Lord to move to the nations was the fact that I was the only one (it seemed) that was sharing the gospel with my family," missionary explorer Maggie Paige said. "But the Lord made me realize that I am not the only one He will use in my family's life. Even overseas, He has given me such great opportunities to continue sharing the gospel with my family. I have prayed for them for years to come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. I won't lie—there were many times that I got restless and asked the Lord why He wasn't moving, but He continued to comfort me and surround me with His peace in the unknown. This week, I received some very exciting news. My eldest brother was at church and received Christ as his Savior! Praise the Lord! He is faithful and hears prayers." Pray for Maggie's brother to grow in Christ. Also join Maggie and other missionaries in praying for their unbelieving family and friends to trust in Christ.
http://www.imb.org/project-3000/Hyat grew up in a small coastal city known for its pottery and married her neighbors' son. Once they got married, she and her husband moved to the big city to find work for him. They had some children and now live in a family member's house. Hyat's father travels from the small city to the big city to sell the pottery that he buys. Unfortunately, Hyat's husband lost his job, and now they're surviving only on small, odd jobs that he can find. Hyat has heard the gospel many times and even acknowledges that Jesus is God and that He died on the cross, but she is still a committed Muslim. She prays five times a day, fasts during the Islamic month of Ramadan, and teaches her children about Islam any chance that she gets. Pray for Hyat to realize that Jesus is the Light of the world. Pray that she will tire of striving to be a good person in order to get to heaven and come to understand that Jesus paid for all her sins on the cross. Pray that Hyat will want to follow Him.
Pray for some believers who will be moving to a new city this summer where there's a significant diaspora population. They are hoping to share the gospel with these peoples and will be starting from "ground zero."
(ben-GAH-lee) - Pray for the Bengali Muslim people. They belong to the Sunni Muslim community, and the primary language that they speak is Bengali. In India, they have a population of 4,465,000. Pray that the Lord will direct Bengali Muslims to those who are Jesus followers so that they may hear the life-changing gospel message.
Several Good Fridays ago, Omar, who is a refugee from the region of northern Africa and the Middle East, had a dream about Jesus being crucified and risen from the dead, two historic events that Muslims categorically deny. Several days later, he asked a believing friend of the family what the dream meant. (He didn't want to disclose the dream to any of his family members even though he knew that several of them already follow Jesus.) The believer shared the gospel with Omar at that time. Recently, Omar professed faith in Jesus, believing that He is Lord, that He died for our sins, and that God raised Him from the dead. Pray that Omar will own his faith by sharing it with his family members--particularly his wife--and with his friends. Pray that he will be willing to meet with his believing brother for mutual discipleship, encouragement, and exhortation.
In a country with more than 1.4 billion people and where the majority people group makes up 90 percent of the population, there is vast lostness among minority groups scattered throughout the land. Although only a little more than 2% of the majority people group is considered Christian, this percentage is greater than that of the minority groups. Ask the Lord to raise up believers from this people group for the harvest fields among "the least of these." Pray believers will have hearts that desire to reach into the darkness with the love of Jesus (Matthew 25:40). Ask the Lord to begin to burden the souls of Christians to step across ethnic barriers and present the gospel, which is for all the peoples of the earth, and that many will hear the gospel and put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
