Sub-Saharan African Peoples
Wassulu of Mali, Guinea, and Cote d’Ivoire

(WAH-soo-loo) - Pastor Paul has been a co-laborer with those working among the Wassulu since the beginning of the efforts. Of Wassulu ancestry himself, and one who left Islam to follow Jesus, God has given this Malian pastor a passion for sharing with anyone he encounters. The first time a team member drove him to the Wassulu region, he stooped to kiss the ground and then stood to pray over the people there. Challenges and persecution have come from friends and family, and he's had direct verbal threats upon his life, but Paul has remained faithful to preaching the Word of God and sharing. You've been asked before to pray for Paul and his family, which now includes one grandchild and another on the way. As Father's Day approaches, join Wassulu workers in lifting up Paul; his wife, Kate; and their family. Pray that God will give him continued good health and the ability to travel to different villages as he ages--a challenge in a location like Mali. Pray for Christian wives for his three sons, and intercede for his daughter and son-in-law's young family. They're the next generation challenged to stand firm as followers of Christ among a small minority of believers.

Central Asian Peoples
Turks of Istanbul, Turkey

(is-tan-BULL) - Seventy days after the Islamic month of Ramadan, Muslims commemorate the Feast of Sacrifice by sacrificing a cow, sheep, or goat to remember the prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son. As Turks commemorate this sacrifice holiday, please pray that God will open their hearts to recognize the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ on the cross. Pray that they will understand that through His sacrificial death, they can find true redemption, forgiveness, and eternal life. May God reveal to them the depth of His love and mercy manifested through Jesus Christ, who willingly laid down His life. Many young adults and university students have distanced themselves from their religious traditions and may not even celebrate this holiday anymore. For many of them, it's just a week off from work. Please pray that this separation from traditional beliefs will create an opportunity for them to explore Christianity and read the Bible. Pray for Christians to have opportunities to share the gospel with their friends, family, and neighbors during this time.

(TOH-kyoh) - "In April, we asked you to pray for the new semester activities on college campuses. Thank you so much for your prayers. Many good connections were made, and good conversations were had. Pray that these students will continue to come to our activities throughout the semester and that their hearts will be softened to the gospel truths shared with them. Continue to pray for the Tokyo Team to connect well with these students and to be bold and share the gospel clearly."

The past few months, a team of workers and their South Asian partners have walked through a few difficult situations. Despite being tired and wearied by these, they have remained transparent with each other and before the Lord, guarding their relationships. Pray that they will lean into the Lord's strength and continue to pursue loving each other well and being quick to show grace. Pray for rest, both physically and mentally, for each team member. Pray for them to press on in the work, as in the past few months, many unengaged, unreached people groups have been located and relationships are starting with them! "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:28-29 ESV).

"Our summer college student volunteers will be leaving Cebu soon. We are so thankful they listened to the Lord and were obedient to come and spend their off time with us and among the Cebuano people. They had opportunities to work alongside healthcare workers, teach nutrition and give preventive health classes. They became close friends with their two Filipina translators. I'm excited to tell you stories next time of how God used them in the lives of children and adults in the province."

(car-NAH-tuh-kuh) - Spiritual warfare is very real in South Asia because God is doing an amazing thing, and as that happens, the evil one gets angry and does everything he can to stop it. Please pray for the "spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places" to have no foothold in the Upper Plains of Karnataka. As people "catch a vision" for God's kingdom and the work that remains, pray that they will stand firm against the attacks of the evil one, putting on the whole armor of God--the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, feet shod with the preparation of the gospel, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the "sword of the Spirit which is the word of God"--and "praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit" (Ephesians 6:10-18 NKJV).

Northern African and Middle Eastern Unengaged Peoples

There are more than 80 people groups in Ethiopia, each with their own language and culture. The four largest groups, having millions of people, make up almost 70% of the population. The numbers range from a population of 25 million for the largest people group to less than 5,000 for some of the smaller ones. The Mocha (pronounced MOH-kuh) and the Male (pronounced MAH-lee) are two people groups that share several things in common. They both have less than 150,000 people, the Mocha with 118,000 and the Male with 149,000. They both reside in the southwestern part of Ethiopia. And most of the people in both groups practice an animistic religion, believing that natural things, including plants, animals, and even inanimate objects, possess a spiritual essence. Both groups have the Bible and the "JESUS" film in their languages. Yet, both are currently classified as unreached and unengaged; no one is working among them with a plan to share Jesus and start churches. Pray that believers from other nearby groups will be burdened to take the gospel to the Mocha and the Male. Pray that the Bible and the "JESUS" film will be read and seen by these people. Pray for salvation to come to them.

In the desert lands, children are a blessing to their fathers. Fathers dote on their toddlers as they bounce them on their knees. Some teach their growing children their own trade as herders, farmers, merchants, carpenters, and more. Where possible, fathers urge their children to go to school and boast when their sons and daughters are number one in the class! Out of necessity, many fathers leave the home for employment for long periods of time. Their intention is to send support back to the family and return as often as possible. Sadly, some fail to send support and never return. "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4 ESV). Pray for the fathers of the desert to instruct their children with compassion and care. Intercede for them as they carry the burden of providing for their families. Pray for fathers to hear the gospel, believe, and lead their families in the truth.

Lilongwe, Malawi, and Beyond

(li-LONG-way) - "Over the past two years, our Malawi Team has trained and equipped about a dozen Malawian couples serving as home missionaries. They're strategically placed by the Baptist Convention of Malawi to engage lostness among unreached people groups within their own country. We've discussed together the role of a missionary and the particulars on engaging people within specific Malawian tribes and cultures different from one's own. Additionally, we've focused on living among, reaching, and engaging lostness within a Muslim population segment. This month, we'll be hosting a volunteer team from the United States who'll help us teach about maintaining biblical families even--and especially--while serving as ministers and missionaries. Please pray for the teaching to be communicated effectively. Pray for all the participants to recognize that God's Word and design supersede all cultural and traditional practices. Intercede for each couple as they walk through this training together and assess their marriages and families in the reflective mirror of God's Word. Ask that by the power of the Holy Spirit, they'll each take the necessary steps and time to sift their cultural practices through the sieve of Scripture, holding on to what's both biblical and cultural and letting go of that which is not."

(ma-COW) - How can one think of reaching a city of more than 7 million people for Christ? A group of faithful brothers and sisters are faithfully going out weekly to share the gospel on the streets. As these Christians seek to engage people, ask the Lord to give them favor with passers-by and that people will be open to listen. Pray that the message of Jesus will resonate in their hearts as truth and that they will grasp hold of it with believing faith.

Equipped to Serve in the Americas

Please be in prayer for a volunteer team from Tennessee who will be coming to serve alongside the church in Sigchos, Ecuador, on June 17-24. They will work with the church locally, as well as visit surrounding communities to share the gospel and disciple new believers. Please pray for guidance and wisdom for the volunteer team as well as for the local church as they prepare together to minister and make known the name of Christ in that community and surrounding ones during that week.
