(am-uh-ZEEGH) – Many Amazigh live in areas filled with a rich history and all have a rich culture. Some of these things are widely known, while others are known only to those who are inside the communities. One of the more famous items to proceed from many of their communities is the fruit of the palm tree: a date. Though people may not be able to find them on a map, many of these oases full of palm trees are known, at least by name, due to the dates that they produce. While the Amazigh are happy to share the dates and benefit from the opportunities for trade that this fruit provides, they don’t want to share everything. The elders desperately try to hold on to the traditions and language of old while needing to be at least somewhat connected to the regional marketplace. As the Amazigh work through this tension of respecting the past while being thrust into new dynamics, please pray for them to find truth and accept the changes required to follow Jesus while enjoying the freedom they have in Him to still be Amazigh.
