Zaman, a taxi driver, was recently asked by a believing patron if he was a Muslim. “Yes, but I have a problem with the religion,” he replied hesitantly, sharing that some of his issues with Islam have nearly led him to atheism. He described once lighting a candle and saying to God, “If you’re really there, blow out this candle.” To his disappointment, nothing happened. The believer continued to share with Zaman, and when they arrived at the destination, they continued to talk for another half an hour–with the meter off! As the believer shared the reason that Jesus took on flesh to save us, Zaman replied, “I do believe this in my heart, but my ‘engineer mind’ has trouble when all my questions still aren’t answered.” The believer shared that God reveals Himself to those who seek Him, telling Zaman that God had sent him a witness to the truth that day and an answer to his previous prayer. As they parted, Zaman agreed to begin reading the Bible with the believer. Pray that God will open Zaman’s heart and mind to see, understand, and follow the truth with new eyes of true faith.
