Bedouin of Libya

(BED-oo-in) – Bedouins are known throughout the world for their nomadic lifestyle and their ability to survive in harsh desert environments. The Libyan Bedouin are no different. They consist of a group of distinct but similar Bedouin tribes, with approximately 997,000 people found in pockets throughout a wide swath of the country. Over two-thirds of the Bedouin in the country live along the road between the city of Sebha and the towns of Awbari and Murzuq in the southwestern Fezzan region, while other smaller groupings can be found around the city of Sirte in the central coastal region, in the westernmost portion of the Cyrenaica region, and in the Kufra Basin in southeastern Libya. Like the majority peoples of the country, they speak Libyan Arabic and are Muslim, but they do, at times, face discrimination for being different. Please pray for the salvation of the Bedouin of Libya.
