Beja of Northern Africa

(BEE-ja) – “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:13-14 ESV). Some Christians from another tribe were planning how to minister to the Beja who live near them. They decided to start a conversation with the Beja while offering them a cup of cool water. “We could get in so much trouble,” they thought, “just by talking with them. If the conversation goes well, and we have the opportunity to present the gospel, then what?” The Beja could be persecuted by their own family members, the greater community, and possibly the local police if they decide to follow Jesus. “How would they talk with them anyway? What would they say?” they wondered. Pray for true believers who live in Beja areas to be intentional in taking the gospel to them because “how are they to hear without someone preaching?” (Romans 10:14 ESV).
