Bhama of Myanmar

(BAH-mah) – April always ushers in a time of celebration, with Myanmar’s Water Festival bringing the biggest festivities of the year. This yearly Buddhist celebration brings ample opportunity for debauchery and sin, even for local believers. Alcohol abuse, blaring music, drug use, and adultery are common among many who participate in the days-long partying. Many revelers in recent years see this as the only escape from a life of hardship in a war-torn country. Believers from one local congregation have asked a pastor for extra learning time and Bible study during the 4-day celebration. They see this as the only escape from temptations to sin alongside neighbors and coworkers who are partaking in the celebration. Pray that local believers will find good ways to spend their time away from the many temptations that exist during the month of April. Ask that they will be supernaturally strengthened against the attacks of the enemy who wishes to see their faith destroyed. Also, ask that local pastors will confront these issues head-on and not shy away from speaking truthfully about a popular local holiday.
