The Gawar-Bati are a small, resilient people group living in the rugged mountains of the Kunar province of Afghanistan, along the volatile border between that country and Pakistan. Their name literally means “Gawar language,” marking them as being linguistically distinct from their larger Pashtun neighbors. They live in an area defined by steep valleys and isolation, which has historically kept them cut off from the outside world. Spiritually, they are 100% Sunni Muslim, with no known evangelical presence or resources. They are a people cut off by both geography and conflict, living in a region where the gospel has never taken root. This edge of darkness remains unengaged, waiting for the first light of hope to reach their valleys. Pray that the Lord will reveal Himself to Gawar-Bati leaders through dreams and visions, opening a door for the gospel in this isolated valley. Ask God to raise up intercessors who will faithfully stand in the gap for this people group until they are no longer unreached.
