Central Asian Unengaged Peoples

The Larestani are a people of Persian descent who live in the Fars province of southwestern Iran. The largest town is Lar, the language that’s spoken is Lari, and Islam is the religion they practice. Because their region is one of the poorest in Iran, many Larestani have migrated to more prosperous parts of the country for work. Those who remain are mostly farmers or nomadic shepherds. Cereals, citrus fruits, and dates are major crops, along with tobacco, cotton, mustard, and sesame. Most farmers depend entirely upon rainfall to water their crops. The shepherds raise camels, horses, and sheep. Some Larestani are peddlers and traders. Others work in weaving and masonry industries. Many struggle to make a living. The Larestan region lacks a reliable supply of fresh water, which hinders growth and development. Pray that the Larestani people will come to know Jesus as the Living Water–never to thirst again! Pray that God will use the difficulties of life to drive the Larestani to seek Him. Pray that He will orchestrate events so that believers can meet and share the gospel with Larestani living outside their homeland so they may hear the gospel and believe.
