The Kurmanji Kurds of Iran live in a rugged part of northeastern Iran. They are part of the larger Kurdish people group, numbering more than 16 million globally. Kurds are the largest people group in the world without their own country. Although most Kurmanji Kurds practice Sunni Islam, a portion of them follow a syncretistic religion called Yarsanism, causing them to be even further persecuted by their countrymen. The Kurds of Iran are pressured to assimilate into Persian culture but want to retain their own culture. Give thanks to God that there are many Iranian believers and fellowships in Iran! Despite that wonderful reality, however, there is little gospel witness in the region of the Kurmanji Kurds. There are many challenges to the gospel reaching these people, but the Lord’s arm is not short to save. Pray that many Kurmanji Kurds of Iran will find the gospel on the internet and satellite television. Ask that their hearts will be broken over their sin and that they will seek and find salvation in Christ. Pray that the sovereign Lord will orchestrate mature Iranian believers to meet and build gospel relationships with Kurmanji Kurds of Iran.
