New Zealand and Australia sit “down under,” each boasting distinctive attractions and vibrant multicultural societies. New Zealand’s pristine landscapes — celebrated worldwide by The Lord of the Rings and Hobbiton — draw visitors and new residents alike. The 2025 census records a population of 5.34 million, with Auckland as the largest city. Auckland is a cultural crossroads: on any Friday night you’ll likely encounter people from seven to ten different nations. Indian and Chinese-heritage communities are the two largest non-English-speaking groups, and 70% of New Zealand’s Chinese population lives in Auckland, visible in streets, malls, campuses, parks, and supermarkets. Nearly 72% of Chinese New Zealanders claim no religious affiliation, with only 4.3% identifying as Christian. Australia, famed for the Sydney Opera House, kangaroos, and koalas, also hosts a substantial Chinese diaspora — about 1.4 million people. The Chinese comprise 5.5 % of the national population, making Chinese the most-spoken foreign language. With many Chinese now residing in New Zealand and Australia, there is a great opportunity for evangelism and discipleship. Training believers abroad can ripple back to China as they visit or return home, multiplying the impact the gospel. One of the best ways to share Christ with the 1.42 billion Chinese is to reach them while they are overseas. Pray for the salvation of the Chinese diaspora.
