Chinese in Paris, France

The Chinese in Paris, with a current estimated population of 600,000, is an ever-growing population segment in France. There is a rift in the cultural identity of and a generational gap between first-generation and second-generation Chinese people in France. Many in the first generation hold closely to their Chinese identity and language, while many of the second generation have adopted much of the French identity and language in which they were educated. Many local Chinese churches are split between their aging Chinese-speaking congregations and their second-generation, French-speaking congregations, which are mainly comprised of young professionals, college students, and youth. This cultural divide has also resulted in the second-generation Chinese abandoning the religions of their parents and embracing French secularism. This challenges Chinese Christians in France as they seek to share the gospel in a secular environment, not only with their peers, but also with their children and grandchildren. Pray for the salvation of the Chinese in Paris.
